Thinking of You Gifts Ireland: Sometimes It's the Little Things That Matter Most

Thinking of You Gifts Ireland: Sometimes It's the Little Things That Matter Most

A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with a serious illness, and I have to say, I found it very hard knowing what she was going through and not being able to do much to help. She lives away from me, so I couldn't just call in for a cup of tea, sit with her for a while or help out with the everyday things. I could ring her and send messages, of course, but I still felt fairly helpless.

I think most of us have been in that position at some stage. Somebody we care about is going through an awful time and we'd give anything to make things a bit easier for them, but there's very little we can actually do to change what's happening.

So, throughout her treatment, I started sending my friend little care packages. Nothing fancy or expensive, just a few things I thought she might enjoy. A face mask, a bath soak, some chocolates or something small that might give her a little lift. I didn't expect a thank you or even need to know whether she'd used everything I sent. That wasn't why I was doing it.

I suppose, in my own way, I was trying to make up for not being able to be there. I kept thinking that if one of those little treats gave her ten minutes of comfort or helped take her mind off things for a short while, then at least I'd done something. I couldn't change what she was going through, much as I wished I could, but I could let her know I was thinking about her.

And I think that's really what a Thinking of You gift is all about.

You Don't Need a Special Occasion

We're all fairly good at remembering birthdays, Christmas and anniversaries, but sometimes it's the ordinary days when somebody could really do with a little lift. It might be a friend who's unwell, a sister who's having a difficult time, someone recovering from an operation or a daughter away at college who's feeling homesick.

A Thinking of You gift doesn't have to be expensive or a grand gesture. Sometimes it's just a few little things chosen with that person in mind. Something you know they'll enjoy, along with a message to say you're thinking about them.

When I was putting those packages together for my friend, I found myself thinking about what she might actually like and what might make her smile. It wasn't about filling a box with lots of products. It was about choosing something especially for her.

Sending a Little Love Home to Ireland

One thing I've noticed since starting TLC Gifting is how many of my customers live abroad. I have people ordering from all over the world who want to send gifts to family and friends back home in Ireland. Some are celebrating birthdays or happy occasions, but others are sending care packages because somebody they love is having a difficult time.

I can understand that feeling completely. When you're miles away from somebody, you can't just call around to see how they're getting on or drop in with a few treats. You can keep in touch by phone, but sometimes you want to do something a little more personal.

For somebody living abroad, being able to send a thoughtful gift directly to an address in Ireland is a lovely way of letting someone know they're not forgotten. It doesn't replace being there, but it does mean a little surprise can arrive at their door, even when you're thousands of miles away.

And that's one of the things I enjoy most about my business. I might be the person packing the box, but the thought behind it comes from somebody who wishes they could be there themselves.

A Few Little Things, Chosen With Care

One of the reasons I introduced my Build Your Own Gift Box option was to let people choose things that genuinely suit the person receiving them. You might know your friend loves a particular chocolate, your mam enjoys a nice candle or your sister would appreciate a few self care treats.

You don't need to spend a fortune or fill a box with lots of things. Sometimes three or four little treats are more than enough, especially when you've chosen them with that person in mind.

If you'd like to put something together yourself, you can Build Your Own Thinking of You Gift Box, choosing from chocolates, candles, bath products, skincare and other little gifts. Every box is hand packed by me here in Ireland, finished with a ribbon and includes a handwritten card with your own message.

I think the card is just as important as what's inside. Particularly when somebody is having a hard time, you don't always know what to say. Sometimes a simple "Just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you" is all that's needed.

Sometimes It's Enough Just to Let Someone Know You Care

I often think about my friend when I'm packing a Thinking of You box now. I know what it's like to be the person sending one, hoping that whatever is inside might bring a little bit of happiness to somebody who's having a difficult time.

I never wanted my friend to feel she had to acknowledge every package or even use what I'd sent straight away. I just wanted her to have those little things there if and when she felt like enjoying them.

And I think that's what matters most. Not how much you spend or how impressive the gift looks, but the fact that you've thought about somebody and wanted to do something kind for them.

If there's somebody in your life who could do with a little lift, whether they're down the road or back home in Ireland while you're living abroad, you can create your own Thinking of You gift box here.

Sometimes we can't be there in person, but we can still let somebody know we care.
